Cinema captures time and translates it into a sequence of frames perceived within fractions of a second. Animation, by contrast, distills the physical dimension into lines, shapes, and movement that intertwine within each frame to create a world filled with meaning and life. “Short Animation,” a project by the Makor Foundation for Israeli Films, brings together filmmakers and animation artists, supporting the development and production of short animated films — visual and dramatic moments in which ideas, story, emotion, and imagination converge into a tangible cinematic experience.

This marks the ninth year in which we gather for Makor Foundation’s pitching event, held in collaboration with the International Student Film Festival as part of the “Short Animation” project. Seven Israeli animation creators will present proposals for short animated films before a jury panel representing the foundation, from which two projects will be selected to receive production grants. The completed films will premiere in a special pre-screening as part of the opening ceremony of the International Student Film Festival in 2028.
